We moved to this
area of North Carolina close to 30 years ago. Once settled, I started
looking for a vet for my toy poodle and collie. I started at the
"A's" and worked my way back. I was extremely young at the time
and had a toddler. People were quick to make snap judgments. One of my
favorites was a receptionist who wanted to know if my mother was waiting in the
car and could the baby stay with her or would my mother be in to pay the bill.
Or another who took my dog and told me to stay in the waiting room because they
found that most children were better off there or got in the way during the
visit. These comments were made to me, who had managed a 40 horse stable
from the age of 16 just for feed and board on 2 horses!
It took a couple
of years to work my way back to the "W's", but it was worth the
wait! I had been in a couple of times with this and that but nothing
major...until the little cream long haired dog wandered into the yard. She had
been hit and it had torn tissue and part of her intestine had become attached
to just the under the skin area of her belly. I took her in and had my
first visit with the only doctor there I had yet to meet...Dr. Phil DeBrito.
Covered in dirt,
mud (and whatever else while I was handling this girl) I must have made a
really great first impression! But not once was I asked to leave. I
handled this girl from the beginning and after x-rays as Dr. DeBrito explained
what would be required. He knew she was a stray because he had wanted
history on her and I couldn't provide any. After he told me what was
needed and the cost I simply asked her chances of recovering and being well
after. He assured me she would be fine. I told him to do the
surgery. It wasn't until later I realized he had fully expected me to say
it was too much (it was more than I had at the time for sure!) and have this
dog put to sleep. The fact that the thought had never even crossed my mind must
have been obvious to him as well.
My dogs, whether
mine or rescues waiting for medical attention before placement, are my family
and as such I want to have the very best for them. This is just as true
with their vet care. When you get an excellent one you shout it from the
rooftops because you want as many people as possible to have one too!
Dr. Phil DeBrito
and Dr. George Kahdy of Wake Veterinary Hospital, Inc. have been my vets
for 25+- years now. They, along with Dr.'s Lindsey and Norris, the
assistants, Judy and the rest of the girls up front are friends of mine and I
trust them with the lives of all my animals. This page is dedicated to
each and every one of them! For giving me the peace of mind that my pack
of "kitchen sharks" are in the best possible hands! I am not
receiving anything from them for this. It is simply my own way of
honoring them and saying thanks for what all of them have done for and how much
they have meant to me through the years.
These are
pictures of their brand new veterinary hospital off of Highway 64, at
Planter's Walk...it is a cutting edge facility with everything possible to help
your fur kids and then some! So if you are new to the area or just
looking for an excellent care facility for your pet please check them out! You
will not find a more superior clinic anywhere!
