Holistic Pet Food
Why is a Natural
and Holistic Approach to Pet Care Important?
"Modern physics, various eastern philosophies and
ecology all have shown that we live in a unified field. Our
values, beliefs and wants must become attuned to the
totality of life so that enlightened self-interest is in
concert with the greater good. This new world embracing
ethic includes a universal reverence for all life including
animal life. It is urgently needed... Holistic
medicine respects and is attuned to the "wisdom of the
body". This wisdom, the connection between body
sensitivity and mind awareness, has almost been lost to
modern civilization which separates mind from body, man
from animal and humanity from nature. Our bodies are not
machines, nor are animals.
Holistic
living is living in harmony with ourselves, each other and
with nature as a whole: it is knowing that the quality of
relationships influences our state of health as much as our
temperament, perceptions, genetic constitution and such.
The same holds true for the health of our pet/s.
And, the more removed we and they are from nature, the more
disharmony and suffering there will be in the world."
Dr. Michael W. Fox, D. Sc. Ph.D.
What to expect from holistic
pet care?
Results using holistic care vary, but generally true are
the following:
1. Natural
methods, including food changes, produce slower but
substantial results.
We are accustomed to synthetic drugs which can stop
symptoms quickly. But, in many cases, the problem reoccurs
because it had merely been suppressed as opposed to cured.
Holistic methods seek to cure the problem at its core, not
just treat the symptoms. This results in a more permanent
cure and a healthier pet.
2. A good, high
quality diet is the foundation of your pet's health.
Many commercial premium foods contain chemicals known to be
toxic, and meat not fit for human consumption. This wears
down an animal's immune system over time and doesn't foster
a long life.
Also, domestic
pets are descendents of animals that have been existing
in the wild for eons. Many holistic vets feel that
animals are biologically designed to eat fresher food than
kibble. Many vets recommend feeding pets some or all fresh
food with some supplementation. But, if you feed dry
food (kibble), choose an all natural food, and see the
article on "bloat."
3. Annual
vaccinations are of much controversy within the veterinary
field.
Most holistic vets feel that pets do NOT need to be
re-vaccinated every year, and that some health problems are
caused by over-vaccination. Please speak with one of our
listed vets regarding this important matter. There is also
published information about this in various holistic
pet care books.
